Girls State

"Girls State is one part boot camp, one part Girl Scouts, one part government class, and one part cheer camp."
Hey! There's a new Girls State picture site up, and you can visit it HERE . It's Amy Rydleski's site, so make sure to tell her how much you like it!

This picture comes from Amy Rydleski's site of Girls State pictures. This is our entire city.

With a lead-in like that, what more do you need?
Anyway, I attended the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State this year. I didn't want to go. I was terrified to go. I wasn't even supposed to go, if you want to know the truth. But go I did, and I was pleasantly surprised. My roommate was not a homicidal maniac. None of the girls on my floor - save perhaps Bethany - were homicidal maniacs. Things went remarkably well. I was in the band - which played a junior high version of "Beauty and the Beast" - and it was good. I was elected city party chair for the Nationalists and was elected to Senate. I got to sit in a senator's chair. I won an award.

And now, some pictures and quotes.

This is me, receiving my award. This photograph was taken by Crystal, our mayor.

"What's with the elbow?" - Me, to Kat

"That question was more loaded than a gun in a bad Western movie." - Me, to Janice

This is the group of Nationalist City Party chairs, who made up the State Central Committee. I'm in the back row, second from the right. This photograph was taken by either Adam or Jen, the government advisors.

"Call him Sherman, but pronounce it Steve." - Kat, on the fish in the dining hall

"... if you know what I mean." - something a lot of us added onto the end of our sentences

This is Adam Seyburn, one of my government advisors. He's a funny man. I actually took this one.

"You gotta jump out of the bushes!" - the bar association guy

This is Jen Getting-Jameslyn, my other advisor. I also took this one.

"Stick together, and don't kill any babies!" - Stacey, our counselor

This is the Capitol. We walked seven-and-a-half miles to get here, while singing. Be envious. Or something.

"Can I second that?" - the universal Girls State phrase

This is Anna, our State Central Committee Chairperson. She rocks.

"Our little girl's all grown up and defending murderers." - Janice and I at Mock Trial

This is me, sitting in Senator Cameron Brown's chair. Atiya took this picture.

"A tie tack! Awwww...." - a bunch of girls, from the opening ceremonies

This is Kat (on the left) and me (on the right) after Super Skinner night.

"Gooses!" - some girl from the Bar

This is Allison and Crystal (our mayor) prior to the Wednesday night dinner.

"I'm going to beat you in the face. Tee-hee!" - Kat, to someone

Skinner (a poem)
What can you say about Skinner
That hasn't been said before?
You can say that we're witty and charming
And we've got the best stuff on our doors.
You can say we all get along well
And we're never afraid of a fight.
You can say that we're loudmouthed and rambunctious
And in that you would probably be right.
But the best thing you can say about Skinner
Possibly the best thing of all
Is that we have bonded so much
We're friends with the entire hall!
Leaving each other will be sad, it's true
But we all know we're ready to go.
And to one last chorus of "Skinner what"
The Skinners girls will go with the flow.

"There is NOTHING wrong with broccoli." - Me, to someone who didn't like the broccoli we were having for dinner

Head back home.
